This elective is geared toward students with an interest in public health literacy, patient engagement, and provider-to-patient communications. Students will work with librarians to learn: how to research evidence-based public health resources, principles of instructional design, and best practices for creating communications materials for public health consumption. Using this information and their own clinical knowledge, students will identify a topic of interest and create a relevant multimedia product (such as a podcast, video, pamphlet, or zine) that will benefit patients or other public health consumers. The final product will be uploaded to OpenSIUC for public use but other avenues of communicating the student’s work will also be explored. Opportunities for collaboration with SIU Medicine Telehealth, Marketing & Communications, or other campus units may be available depending on the chosen topic and project medium.
